Congratulations you booked your flight to Germany. Before you land make sure you have researched all the German travel tips.
What is the most important German travel tip?
How do you find the bathroom?
You are traveling to Germany and your child has to go to the restroom. Let’s keep it real, you had to much beer and you are doing the potty dance at midnight.
- Look for the words WC (Water Closet) or Toilette
- If you can’t find it ask. Germans are very direct, you don’t say restroom. Otherwise they think you might need to sit down and rest. Don’t ask them where the bathroom is, are you dirty? Ready for a warm bath? Ask them for the toilet!! Wo ist die Toilette? Where is the toilet.
restroomstoilets are not free in Germany. Bring your money, at least .50 Euro.
In case you forget your money in the car. What next?
Step 1: Insert your .50 Euro into the slot and turn. Mind you in this spectacular public toilet located in the Swiss Saxony, a great travel destination, you can’t go under the stall.
Step 2: No money no problem? You just have to wait with a smile on your face. Are you kidding? If it’s midnight and you are already doing “THE POTTY DANCE” you aren’t smiling?
Step 3: The lovely child will open the door for you in a heartbeat with their .50 Euro. Okay what child is going to be up at midnight? This scenario is perfect for the day in one of Germany’s busiest National Parks Swiss Saxony but not at midnight in Bavaria.
So there was no child to open the door for you and you do like the other Germans do at midnight. You walk 100 yards and squat. No problem, no waiting and no mess*.
