Why would someone say Silicon Valley is the perfect place for a girlfriends’ getaway? That really baffles me, maybe a great place for business but let’s dive deeper into Silicon Valley.
How do you choose the destination?
Think about the time of year. Is it dead of winter? Then pick a place that is warm and not 8 hours to fly to. My girlfriends and I chose Silicon Valley. Why? The weather is usually in the mid 70’s in March and what snow? As you know I am from Silicon Valley and have all my favorite gal pals there. Well, except the one, Jo-Anne that lives in Calgary and complains of -30C (bbbbrrrrr). Okay, Silicon Valley won by a long shot.
How do you choose the perfect hotel?
First, decide if you will each have your own room or sharing a room. We chose to share a room. Make sure it is a happening place. Check, I mean we checked into the Hotel Valencia. We chose Hotel Valencia because it is directly in the hot spot of town, Santana Row. This is my first time staying at the hotel and it was beyond my expectations.
We arrived in our room and I flew open the shutters to a quiet and peaceful view. I think I even heard music that brought me to the reality that I was staying somewhere in Europe. We weren’t of course. Parking was very easy and did I mention they have the V-Bar that is a must for Happy Hour and any occasion. While we were there Netflix was having an executive meeting there too. So you know it must be good.
“Loved it it was such a gem in the middle of Silicon Valley” – Tiffany
Breakfast was good and the green smoothie was even better. I was hoping for some good breakfast sausage and pancakes, it wasn’t that kind of breakfast but still good. Hotel Valencia has the charm of a European boutique hotel and breakfast was included. I give it 3 stars just for that but for the complete experience, I give it 5 Stars!!
“Hotel Valencia is a gem in the heart of Santa Row, with a fabulous breakfast spread and an amazing roof top pool” – Jo-Anne
What about the amenities? They have a pool and it was empty. I didn’t get into it but JoAnne was enjoying the warm water in the hot sun.
What could be better? After arriving back to our room in the evening we were greeted with a bottle of wine and a cheese platter. Hello.
Perfect hotel for a girlfriends’ getaway.
What restaurant to choose?
You haven’t seen your BFF’s for almost a year so how do you catch up? You want to sit at a restaurant for a few hours and catch up without the waiter looking at his watch and coming over every 20 minutes to try to take your plate. We chose, okay I chose La Fondue. Don’t ever estimate the power of a Groupon!
La Fondue takes about 2 hours from start to finish. Our good old friend Armita said, “oh good a salad to start!” I said, hold it don’t eat all of it, take it home. If you eat that delicious salad you won’t have room for the alligator, buffalo or kangaroo! You get it that we love our meat.
How to choose activities?
What does everyone like to do? Okay go to the spa but when it’s sunny outside the last place we want to be is the spa. We organized a few drivers and hit a few wineries in Morgan Hill. Yes, would you believe it they have wineries in Silicon Valley?
Shopping is always a must! Where and what do you need? I love to browse and look for colorful pieces. A favorite of mine is Pucci but don’t have anything in my closet. Those colors and patterns. I searched all over for the perfect New Balance shoes something with gold and black (nada).
Where did we end up? Everyone’s favorite place to stop if you are coming from Europe “The Gilroy Outlets”. I didn’t find anything but at least I tried on some clothes.
How do you say goodbye?
How do you say goodbye? That is sometimes hard. I am not a cryer okay I will bawl at everything but I always know I will see my BFFs again. Our last night was perfect, staying in with our masks on watching “How to Lose a Guy in 10 Days”.
I told the girls that our next girlfriends’ getaway should be in Italy/Greece laying on the beach with our large fancy hats on, huge sunglasses and a bottle of white wine. Sounds good eh?
I would like to thank Hotel Valencia for our complimentary one night stay. All opinions are my own.
